Teacher training from Poole SCITT
The Poole SCITT is a 'Schools-Centered Initial Teacher Training Course' leading to a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status. Created through partnerships between the participating primary schools, Borough of Poole Local Education Authority and Kingston University in Surrey, to offer initial teacher training, at primary school level, for up to 28 suitably qualified graduates.
Accredited by the Training and Development Agency (TDA) as an official provider of initial teacher training, it has been recently graded by OFSTED as Good with Outstanding features. Validated for PGCE status by Kingston University, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, the course now carries 'M' credits towards a Masters degree.
Our mission is to inspire, motivate and educate future teachers to have a lifelong commitment to raising standards in schools by unlocking every learner's potential. The Poole SCITT is committed to the inclusion of all eligible participants, regardless of sex, age, disability, sexuality, colour, religion or nationality. We welcome applications from ethnic minority and other under-represented groups.
As an outcome of the Equality Act 2010 we have a specific duty to publish equality information and identify one or more equality objectives which we will pursue and review no more than 4 years later. We are currently collating and reviewing our information and this will be published shortly.
Located in Poole, Dorset
Upton House, Upton Country Park, Poole, Dorset is used as the Course Centre for the Poole SCITT.
Upton House is a large country mansion set in an attractive country park on the shores of Poole Harbour. It has over 100 acres of garden, open parkland and woodland only four miles from historic Poole town. This setting of Upton House provides a relaxing location when trainees need time for study and reflection during a busy year. It offers free parking and some catering facilities in the park.
A considerable number of taught course sessions also take place in Poole SCITTÃs partner schools, where specialist facilities are required for PE and ICT. Some sessions in Maths and Science are also held in schools and often involve working directly with children.
The SCITT team is based at the Centre and is responsible for the general direction and day-to-day coordination of the course. All of the SCITT team and the Professional Tutors will offer plenty of personal support throughout the course.
