How To Apply

Essential entry requirements

Poole SCITT is a postgraduate course – in order to apply, you will require:

  • An Honours Degree (2:2 or above) from a UK Higher Education Institution.
  • You will also require GCSE Grade C (or Level 4 for more recent GCSEs) or above in English, Maths and a Science subject.
  • If any of your qualifications have been taken outside of the UK, you will need to have these verified as equivalent to the UK qualifications required for entry. Please visit UK ENIC for more details.

In addition, we recommend:

  • That you have a good personal academic record at secondary education and beyond.
  • If possible, to have some spent time working (either paid or in a voluntary capacity) in a primary school setting. Any amount of time, however small, will help you understand the role of the primary teacher.
  • That you seek a recommendation from an appropriate referee who know knows you in a professional capacity. It may, for example, be a Head teacher/Senior member of staff from any school experience who can comment on your work with children or an academic tutor. Email contact for references must be a professional/business/school email address and not a personal one.

For more information about the role of the trainee teacher, see the job descriptionperson specification and work context. These have been produced by the National Association of School Based Teacher Trainers (NASBTT)

If you are enthusiastic and determined, and aspire to become an excellent teacher then we would like to hear from you.

Safeguarding

Poole SCITT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Any offers for places on our ITT course are conditional upon satisfactory evidence of qualifications, satisfactory references, medical clearance (being cleared to "train to" teach) and other safeguarding checks.

Safeguarding checks will include obtaining and considering an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check and children’s barred list information and a ‘prohibition from teaching’ check. (Please note, a criminal record does not automatically debar a candidate from a place on the course).  All successful applicants are required to sign a declaration that they have not previously been excluded from working with children.

Applicants who have spent time living or working overseas may be required to provide additional evidence of good conduct for that period.

As part of our due diligence checks, Poole SCITT completes an online search on publicly available information of candidates before interview.

Equality

Poole SCITT is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in its recruitment, selection and provision of training and employment in line with the Equality Act 2010. It is committed to the inclusion of all eligible participants, regardless of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality or religious beliefs.

We welcome and value diversity of origin, background and experience amongst staff and trainees as enriching the experience of all those who participate in the life and work of Poole SCITT. We understand the need to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.

Poole SCITT is committed to providing an environment that enables full ITT course access that values and includes all SCITT trainees, staff and prospective trainees regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. We are committed to taking positive action in the spirit of the Equality Act 2010 with regard to equality of opportunity and to developing a culture of inclusion, support and awareness within the SCITT.
