What do we offer

What does Poole SCITT offerPoole SCITT is a high quality school-based primary teaching programme, which is constantly reviewed in order to develop well-prepared and inspired trainees with a positive and reflective attitude towards educating children. As well as a clearly structured taught course which comprises an interrelated blend of theory and practice, the course offers each trainee a minimum of 20 weeks in KS1 and KS2 classrooms in different partner schools from Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset.  We aim to provide a programme which encourages trainees to engage in dialogue through interaction, critical thinking and reflection.

The taught course

  • The taught course is delivered by a range of highly qualified tutors and consultants who lead the different components according to their expertise and experience.
  • The taught course is delivered from Ad Astra Infant School and a variety of other school venues, offering a realistic educational context for study, often involving practical, school-based activity and observations.
  • Trainee audits with supporting seminars and tutorials develop your confidence in the core subjects, and ensure a high level of academic success.
  • All of the assignments are designed to complement your practice in schools and to extend your reading and reflection on the links between theory and practice whilst encouraging innovative ideas.
  • Our highly rated academic and taught aspects of the course are carefully monitored and evaluated to ensure they include current educational priorities and initiatives.

Trainee

“I really liked the idea of a school based course as I wanted to learn on the job and be in the classroom with children. I chose Poole SCITT because of great comments that I had heard from other people, and also from the very good Ofsted report.”
