What do we offer
Poole SCITT is a high quality school-based primary teaching programme, which is constantly reviewed in order to develop well-prepared and inspired trainees with a positive and reflective attitude towards educating children. As well as a clearly structured taught course which comprises an interrelated blend of theory and practice, the course offers each trainee a minimum of 20 weeks in KS1 and KS2 classrooms in three different partner schools from Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset. We aim to provide a programme which encourages trainees to engage in dialogue through interaction, critical thinking and reflection.
The taught course
- The taught course is delivered by a range of highly qualified tutors and consultants who lead the different components according to their expertise and experience.
- The taught course is delivered from Upton House and a variety of other school venues, offering a realistic educational context for study, often involving practical, school-based activity and observations.
- Trainee audits with supporting seminars and tutorials develop your confidence in the core subjects, and ensure a high level of academic success.
- All of the assignments are designed to complement your practice in schools and to extend your reading and reflection on the links between theory and practice whilst encouraging innovative ideas.
- Our highly rated academic and taught aspects of the course are carefully monitored and evaluated to ensure they include current educational priorities and initiatives.
School based practice
- In schools you will work alongside experienced professionals who will guide, mentor and support you as a developing teacher.
- Many of the school based tutors were themselves trained at Poole SCITT and offer invaluable encouragement and relevant guidance to trainees.
